Description

Raft of the Lobster, playing reference to the iconic Raft of the Medusa by French romantic painter Théodore Géricault. Colbert presents his productified Lobster in this iconic composition, this time alone and disguised as a shark on a vast and turbulent sea. Colbert wanted to explore the limits of romanticism through the aesthetic of hyper productification, a pop odyssey. The work also plays reference to the emerging world of digital art and currency, with the raft also acting as a coin collector as if trapped into a dystopian arcade, where at the end the coins pixelate and disappear, creating an endless cycle of collection.
